Frequently Asked Questions
I want you and your dog to feel completely comfortable before, during and after every visit.
Here are some of the most common questions clients ask before booking.
About My Services
Find out more about the grooming services I offer and how I tailor every appointment to suit your dog’s needs.
What services do you offer?
I offer a full range of dog grooming services, including full grooms, bath and brush sessions, puppy grooms, deshedding for short and long coats, hand stripping, teeth cleaning, and special care options such as dematting or flea treatment.
You can find detailed descriptions on the Services page.
Do you groom all sizes of dogs?
Yes — I groom dogs of all sizes, from tiny toy breeds to large and extra-large dogs.
Every appointment is one-to-one, so your dog has my full attention regardless of their size.
Pricing and grooming time vary depending on coat condition, behaviour, and breed, and I’ll always confirm costs during your consultation.
Do you groom all breeds?
Yes — I welcome all breeds, from small short-haired companions to long, curly or double-coated dogs. Each breed has its own coat type and grooming needs, so every appointment is tailored to your dog’s comfort and coat condition.
I’m experienced in handling everything from Poodles, Spaniels, and Terriers to Labradors, Doodles, Retrievers, and mixed breeds. Whether your dog needs a tidy-up, full scissor trim, hand strip, or deshed, I’ll make sure they leave looking and feeling their best.
If you’re unsure what type of groom is best for your dog, I’m happy to advise during your consultation.
Are you qualified?
Yes. I’m City & Guilds qualified with years of experience in professional dog grooming, training and teaching. I also hold a Canine Dental qualification for safe, professional teeth cleaning.
Do you groom nervous, reactive or elderly dogs?
Absolutely. Every dog is handled calmly, gently and with patience. For nervous or reactive dogs, I may use recognised comfort and safety methods — such as a towel wrap or a soft cone — to ensure both your dog’s safety and comfort.
Do you offer one-to-one grooming?
Yes. Every dog is groomed individually, ensuring a calm, quiet and stress-free experience without distractions from other dogs.
Appointments & Grooming
Everything you need to know before, during and after your dog’s visit.
How long does a groom take?
It depends on your dog’s coat, size, and temperament, but most appointments take between 1.5 and 3 hours. I’ll give you an estimated time when you drop your dog off.
What should I do before bringing my dog?
Please make sure your dog has been walked, had a toilet break, and arrives on a secure lead. If your dog has fleas or any health issues, let me know before your appointment.
Do I need to stay during the appointment?
No — dogs usually relax better without their owner present. You’re welcome to chat through your dog’s needs during drop-off, and I’ll let you know when they’re ready for collection.
How often should my dog be groomed?
Most dogs benefit from grooming every 6 to 8 weeks, though some shorter-coated breeds may need less frequent sessions. Regular grooming keeps coats healthy and easier to manage.
Can I book regular appointments?
Yes, and it’s encouraged. Regular grooms mean less time spent detangling or managing overgrowth — which keeps your dog comfortable and your costs consistent.
Health, Safety & Special Care
How I keep every dog safe, happy and healthy — from coat checks to specialist care.
Do you offer teeth cleaning?
Yes — I offer non-invasive teeth cleaning using a disposable toothbrush and dog-friendly toothpaste to help reduce bacteria and freshen breath.
If I notice tartar build-up that needs deeper treatment, I’ll advise you to visit your vet.
What happens if my dog has fleas?
If fleas are found during grooming, I’ll treat your dog, deep clean the salon, and safely dispose of affected materials. An additional cleaning fee will apply.
If you know your dog has fleas before the appointment, please call ahead so I can arrange a separate slot.
What if my dog has matted fur?
If matting is mild, I’ll remove it gently by brushing. Severe matting may require shaving, in line with the Animal Welfare Act 2006, as it can be painful to remove otherwise.
What happens if my dog is nervous or becomes anxious during the groom?
Every dog is different, so I always work at their pace. Before we begin, I take time to help your dog settle and build trust.
During the groom, I watch their body language closely and adapt as needed. If your dog becomes anxious or reactive, I’ll pause, give them space, and use calm handling techniques to help them feel safe. I may use a comfort towel or soft cone if needed — but I’ll never force a dog through anything that causes distress. Their wellbeing always comes first.
Can I bring my dog if she’s in season?
Yes — it’s absolutely fine to bring your dog if she’s in season, as long as she’s comfortable and happy to be groomed.
Every dog reacts differently during this time. Some feel no change at all, while others may be a little more sensitive or unsettled. If your dog is relaxed and coping well, I’m more than happy to go ahead with her groom.
Alternatively, if she seems uncomfortable or you’d prefer to wait until she’s out of season, I can happily rearrange the appointment for a later date. It’s all about what’s best for her
