Meet The Team Behind The Doggie Groomers
Caring hands, wagging tails, and a little help from family — meet the people (and pups) who make it all happen.
Meet Julie
Jarrow born and bred, City & Guilds qualified, and devoted to making every dog look and feel their best.
My journey into dog grooming started from the heart. After my mam, Edna, passed away, I found comfort in caring for animals and decided to get my first dog — a Cavapoo called Eddie, named after her. That little dog changed everything for me.Eddie sparked a real passion for grooming, which soon turned into a new career.
I trained professionally, became City & Guilds qualified, and opened my first salon, Ed’s Shearings, in Low Fell — named in honour of my mam. It grew quickly, and before long I opened a second salon in Washington.
After several busy years, I sold both businesses and decided to take some time to travel and teach — passing on my knowledge as a lecturer at Houghall College. But my love for grooming never faded, and I missed it far too much to stay retired.
Now, back in my hometown of Jarrow, I’ve opened a new grooming room — small, personal, and focused entirely on what I love most: giving dogs the care, attention, and comfort they deserve.
Every dog that comes through my door gets the same patience, detail, and affection I gave Eddie — because for me, this isn’t just work, it’s something truly personal.
When I’m not grooming, I’m usually found with my husband Alfie, a cup of coffee in hand, and a dog or two at my feet.
Alfie and I met while working in the Fire Service — I served for 20 years, and he for an impressive 30 years. We’re both now happily into our second marriage, and between us, we have six brilliant daughters who keep life lively, noisy, and full of laughter.
Before all this, I worked as a hairdresser, so you could say grooming has always been in my blood — I’ve just swapped scissors and curlers for clippers and combs!
We share our adventures with our two Cavapoos, Eddie and Ogie, who are very much part of the family (and usually up to mischief). When we’re not at home, you’ll probably find us in our VW camper van, exploring the UK and Europe, chasing sunshine and good coffee.
I also love a bit of fun — especially my collection of wigs in all sorts of colours. It’s become something of a personal trademark. Life’s too short not to laugh, be bold, and enjoy every day.

Meet the Team Behind The Doggie Groomers
It’s not just me — here’s the small but mighty team that keeps tails wagging and smiles shining at the salon.

Alfie:
Chief Support Officer
After 30 years in the Fire Service, Alfie has swapped fire engines for fur babies. He’s the calm, steady hand behind the scenes — always ready with a bit of DIY, a good brew, and plenty of encouragement. Whether it’s setting up the salon or joining in on our camper van adventures, Alfie keeps everything running smoothly.

Eddie:
The Inspiration
Eddie was my first Cavapoo and the reason I fell in love with grooming in the first place. Named after my mam, Edna, he’s loyal, gentle, and always watching over the salon (usually from the comfiest seat in the house). Eddie taught me patience, kindness, and that every dog deserves to feel their best.

Ogie:
The Namesake
Named after my stepdad, Ogie is our cheeky Cavapoo and the heart of the salon’s name — The D’oggie Groomers. He’s playful, full of personality, and loves meeting new people (and dogs). When he’s not greeting clients, he’s usually stealing cuddles or posing for photos.
